Merced Youth Tell A Vision --Project Summary Organized in 1994 as an out-growth of the Community Awareness Gang Activity Task Force, The Merced Community Action Network (MCAN) was Incorporated as a 501 (c)(3) non profit corporation in January of 1997. Three volunteer members of the original Community Awareness Task Force were the co-founders of MCAN. Jim Sanders is currently President/CEO and Linda Lopez and Denard Davis are former members of the Board and now serve in an advisory capacity. In 1995, MCAN formed its Media Center with the production of an original video called "Father Absence: Reversing the Trend". MCAN volunteers raised the funds and shot footage of the video at considerable expense hiring a local videographer for the post production (editing) work at the cost of $1,200.00 for the twenty-seven minute video. The video is offered for sale through the National Fatherhood Initiative resource catalog, and online at. MCAN still ships several copies of this video at $30.00 each. The MYTV Video project is also the producer of the Central Valley Blues Festival video commercials and promos. |
